Concrete pumping in Bur Dubai and Al Karama infill plots

Infill plots in Bur Dubai and Karama leave almost no space on site. The pour is planned around the street: where the pump stands, where the next truck waits, and how long both can stay there.

Pump on the street

Most plots are wedged between existing mid-rise blocks. The pump usually stands on the public road with outriggers out, and that needs permission. Check with the authorities and building management about road use and working hours before you book. We need the approved position and time.

A 43 m boom is the workhorse here: it reaches over the hoarding and covers a typical G+6 floor. For a wider plot, or one set back from the road, the 57 m boom saves a second setup. Refurbishment work inside existing buildings may need a line pump or a placing boom instead.

Feeding the pump without blocking traffic

There is space for one truck behind the pump, at most. We dispatch to match the pump rate exactly and keep the next truck at a staging point nearby until called. A floor slab of 90 m³ is 8 trucks; at around 30 m³ an hour, that means a truck every twenty-four minutes, and the call goes out when the previous drum is half empty.

Trucks come from Al Quoz along Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street or Al Mankhool Road, around 15 km in a straight line. Peak traffic slows it, and that is one more reason for early starts.

Exposure below ground

The area sits on coastal ground. Basement walls and footings meet saline groundwater with chlorides and sulphates, so the substructure mix uses GGBS, a low water/cement ratio and the exposure class your consultant specifies.

Refurbishment work often means breaking out an old slab and pouring a new one inside a building that stays in use. Plan the pour for the quietest hours and agree the line route through the building with the management.

Questions from Bur Dubai and Al Karama sites

Where do trucks wait in Karama?
At a staging point near the site agreed before the pour, called forward one at a time to the pump.
Can you supply refurbishment work inside a building?
Yes, often with screed or small volumes through a line pump. Tell us the access and the floor.
Do I need a permit for a pump on the road?
Usually, yes. Check with the authorities and building management before you book, and send us the approved position.
