Concrete for JBR and Bluewaters, delivered and pumped

JBR and Bluewaters work is mostly repair, podium and refurbishment pours next to people walking, eating and staying in hotels, so timing beats tonnage here.

Pour times that fit a beachfront

Pedestrian traffic on The Walk and around Bluewaters is heavy in the evening, which is exactly when summer pours want to start. Agree the slot with the building management or developer first. We work back from that time to the departure from Al Quoz, a little over 11 km away, and dose the retarder for the trip plus the wait at the service entrance.

Trucks reach the area from Sheikh Zayed Road and come in along Al Mamsha Street. The final approach to a tower is often a service road under a podium, and its clear height and turning space decide whether a full 12 m³ mixer fits. Measure it before the first pour, not on the night.

Staging and spacing

A 48 m³ podium slab is four truckloads. With hotels and shops on both sides, we stage the trucks away from the frontage and release them one at a time. The site gives the go signal to our dispatcher, and the next truck is on its way before the one on the hopper is empty.

For Bluewaters, access over the bridge is managed by the island operator. Check their delivery hours and route before the booking, and plan for the fact that a truck held at the bridge cannot simply turn back into the queue.

Reaching over a podium

Beachfront podiums are wide. A 57 m boom set up on a service road can reach across them where a 43 m boom would fall short. Where the podium edge is close to the road, the 43 m boom does the job with a smaller footprint, which matters next to a hotel drop off. Tower floors above go to a placing boom on the slab.

Salt, chlorides and repair mixes

Both areas are on reclaimed ground with saline water close below. Substructure mixes use GGBS and a low water/cement ratio for chloride and sulphate exposure. For repairs on existing structures, gunite and fibre-reinforced mixes are available, and smaller loads can be planned for patch work.

Questions from JBR and Bluewaters sites

Can a mixer fit under a JBR podium?
Check the clear height and turning space of the service road with building management. If a full truck does not fit, we plan the pump position from outside.
Do you deliver to Bluewaters island?
Yes, within the access hours set by the island operator. Confirm the route with them before booking.
