Concrete pumping and delivery to Dubai Marina

Dubai Marina is a little over 10 km from our Al Quoz plant in a straight line, but the real distance is the tower plot itself: one gate, a short apron and a canal on the other side.

From our Al Quoz plant
about 11 km in a straight line
Ground conditions
Coastal, shallow saline groundwater
Main truck access
Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Sufouh Road

Getting trucks from Al Quoz to the canal

Most loads run down Sheikh Zayed Road and turn in toward the water, with Al Sufouh Road as the second way in for plots on the beach side of the canal. Peak hours lengthen the trip, so we dose the retarder for the time the concrete will actually spend in the drum, not for the map distance.

Slump is set at the plant for the hour of the pour. A mix batched for a 9 pm placement would be the wrong mix at 2 pm in August, which is why the dispatcher asks for the real start time when you book and again the day before.

Tower pours: how many trucks and how close together

A typical Marina transfer slab or raft section of 240 m³ is 20 truckloads of 12 m³. On a tight plot only one truck can stand at the pump hopper, so we hold the next one at a waiting point outside the gate and call it in as the first starts discharging. That keeps the street clear and the pump fed.

For core walls and typical floors the volumes drop, but the rhythm matters more than the total. We space trucks to the pump's actual placing rate on the day, which the site engineer confirms with our dispatcher once the pour starts. If the rate falls because of a blocked line or a formwork check, the next truck stays at the plant instead of waiting on the Marina road.

Pump or placing boom

A 43 m boom handles podium slabs and the first levels from the street. A 57 m boom buys the extra reach when the pump has to stand back from the building line or reach over a podium. Once the tower climbs past what a truck-mounted boom can reach, a placing boom on the slab, fed by pipeline, takes over.

Building management and the master developer usually decide where a pump may set up and at what hours. Check with them before we book the slot, and send us a sketch of the outrigger position so we can confirm the boom size.

Questions from Dubai Marina sites

Can you pour at night in Dubai Marina?
Yes, the plant runs 24/7 and night pours are common for tower slabs in summer. Delivery hours inside the community are set by the developer or building management, so confirm them first.
What do the coastal conditions change for the mix?
The groundwater here is shallow and saline. Piling and substructure mixes are designed for chloride and sulphate exposure with GGBS, a low water/cement ratio and the cover your consultant specifies.
